Granola

Granola helps National Park travelers go beyond the guidebook by offering collectible badges based on major locations, as well as mystery sights, within the park.

I had a blast working on this project with UW Design all-stars Peyton Todd and Youjean Cho.

I was responsible for the badge gallery flow (see below): visual design, motion design and microinteractions. I also designed 1/3 of the badges in the gallery (my fav being the creepy chipmunk).

Badge Gallery

My Contribution

I worked on the core feature of our project: the badge gallery. I used this space to obsess over microinteractions and motion design. By pushing and pulling location cards, different badges cluster and zoom appropriately.

The prototype I built is pretty fun to fidget with. Every time the gallery snaps into place, a pleasing haptic alerts the user that the badges are set in place.

You can access the prototype here.

Inspiration

Identity

Iteration

We made A LOT of versions of Granola before it finally manifested as a focused, viable and dope app concept. We tested with individuals who had never seen the idea before, using a think aloud protocol.

Ideation

Below is my initial proposal for what Granola might look like. We hadn't yet settled on the badge collecting idea. Rather, this was a social–oriented app idea.
